If I've created a website for someone and add it to my portfolio on my shop
window site, then the inbound link from their site becomes a reciprocal
link, which as I understand it means it doesn't do any good for my search
engine ranking.

I'm used to building html sites. A client wants a huge commercial site. The
initial build alone will be about 700+/- pages, with more to come on a
constant basis.

Is there a serch engine that really searchs the things you enter?
For example: Google and many others ignore special characters as well as
the . or # sign.
This is annoying if you want to search for IRC-Channels for example.

Do they lend themselves to optimisation?

I'm using a robots.txt file to control what is and is not crawled by search
engine bots but I'd like to block anything that isn't a known search engine
bot doesn't get the file I'm feeding to google, yahoo and the others.
From what I've read this could be done with .htacess but ...

google spiders all pages of a website?? actually i use some pages for
just returning values or some specific purpose.They are not intended
to be spidered. While analyzing a site, do the optimizers analyze
individually all pages or only default or index page??
