How could I get "flipback" back?

Hello, I am used to "hold right button, click left button (flipback)" to
go back, but in Opera9.50, I can not use this function unless I enable
mouse guesture. I never use mouse guesture, is there a way to get flipback
work while mouse guesture is disabled?

Any suggestion is appreciated.

IIRC, flipback is now [properly] classified as a mouse gesture, since it can
be configured in the mouse setup dialog.  So, mouse gestures must be enabled
for flipback to work.

You can probably delete all other mouse gestures in the mouse setup dialog
(Preferences> Advanced> Shortcuts> Edit... mouse setup), if you just want
flipback and flipforward.

Flipback is always configurable in the mouse setup dialog in Opera9.26 and
previous versions, so it can't be the cause. Because flipback is a little
different from mouse guestures, it doesn't require any movement of mouse
but click.

Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. It could be a workaround.

I noticed this new behaviour in one of the betas and was told that
flipback was now part of mouse gestures. I said that on laptops you may
not want mouse gestures but flipback is incredibly useful and was told the
answer was to create a custom mouse setup. That seems over the top to just
enable back and forward controls on my touchpad buttons. I don't consider
these button controls to be gestures, no more than clicking both buttons
simulates a middle click.

Fully agree with you. The flipback should not be considered as gesture, it
is kinda like left click, right click, middle click. Hope Opera engineers
to get it out of guesture, so that we can use it separately from mouse
guesture.

I have my mouse buttons deliberately reversed,
because it's much more comfortable;
this messes up such mouse gestures, however :)

How about trying the "Z" key? (and "X" for "forward")
(at least these used to work in 9.27,
but perhaps need re-enabling of "single key shortcuts" in 9.50,
because after all Opera's fine work to make keyboard control easier,
now it's "one step backwards" :)

I love to use Z/X for backward/forward (as well as 1 &2 for switch between
tabs) when using touchpad, but would prefer flipback/flipforward when
using mouse :p

If you're referring to the 'hold a button, click the other' page
navigation, I have it with my current 9.50
I got 9.51 last night and will play with it later today.
I think I had to check mouse gestures or something to get it.

Can somebody explain to me what "flipback" is and what it does and how to
do it?

Hold down the right mouse button and click the left. This moves you back
through the history. Hold down the left button and click the right, and
this moves you forward.

It's a bit fiddly when you first use it, but after a week or two you'll
never want to use anything else, let alone an awkward icon at the other
end of the screen!

This feature used to always work since version 5, but someone decided
these were mouse gestures in 9.50 so if you had those disabled then
flipback stopped working. They've fixed this in 9.51.

Thanks for this.  I've been using it since the beginning.  But I thought
it was a mouse gesture.  I never realized it was called "flipback."

I was under the impression that it did more: I had to turn it off
because when I was scrolling down on bulletin boards and accidentally
hit the right mouse button, I'd get sent to the next topic, which was
something I didn't want.  I mentoined it at
<sjehgduznt2u$.dlg@tedstennis.tripod.com> for example.

To go backward and forward through the history, I use the Z and X keys,
although I understand these have been turned off in 9.50; I had to turn
them back on.

That sounds like a mouse gesture to me. You hold down the right button and
move the mouse (or drag your finger if you're using a touchpad) in a
specific shape to perform an action.

This is what I want disabled because I have a touchpad and it's too easy
to accidentally trigger mouse gestures, however flipback/forward are
invaluable so I always want them enabled, and actually find it irritating
when I have to use another browser and they're not there.

I also use Z and X, and have the re-enabled in 9.5, but flipback is by far
the easiest method if you use a mouse or touchpad.

No; what was happening to me is that I was holding down the left mouse
button to scroll down a long page, and then accidentally clicking on the
right button, getting sent to another page.

The 'flipforward' thing is set to "Forward | Fast forward" by default.
This means that a 'fast forward' action will be performed if is available
and there is no 'forward' action that can be done.

Exactly as Eik has explained. It is wonderful to use flipback/flipforward
to nevigate in browsing history. Strongly recommend to you :D

Yes, 9.50 can get it work only when mouse guesture is enabled. And now, it
works in 9.51 without some annoying guesture
