From my web training piece, I want to display an Excel document or a Word
document.  The browser will be IE 6 or 7.  I can do this in javascript using
the window.open method but I would prefer that the Excel or Word document
display in modal form so that the user has to close the document before
returning to the web training piece.  I can open an html document using the
showModalDialog method in modal form but the method doesn't seem to work with
an Excel document.  I'm assume that showModalDialog also doesn't work with a
Word document.

Is there a way to open an Excel or Word document in modal form from my web
training piece?

Thanks.

Possibly try opening a modalDialog which has an iframe to hold the Excel
instead of as the main doc.
Whether to open Office docs within the browser or as a standalone app is set
on a per user basis so unless you have control over user settings you can't
change this.
