I had IE8 installed and was happy with it. Then yesterday I received an
unsolicited offer to install Safari, which I accepted. I declined Safari's
offer to make it the default browser, but used it occasionally. Today I
clicked on IE to open it, but Safari opened. When I tried to open IE,
Safari opened instead. Apparently it simply usurped the default position,
contrary to my instruction. So I removed Safari from the computer, thinking
I could then use IE. When I click on the IE icon, only a configuration
window opens, and I notice that the IE icon has had the gold band stripped
off it. I thought of removing IE from the computer, but a warning tells me
that a long list of programs were installed after IE and might be adversely
affected if IE is removed. What should I do? At the moment, I have no
installed web browser, but I do have an uninstalled copy of Firefox, which
I'll now have to install. Should I go to the MS website and download IE
again? Could this be a problem of the beta?

Now I see that I clicked the wrong button Safari and inadvertently selected
it as the default browser. But should that empower it to open when I
actually clicked on the IE icon? Could Safari have disabled the IE program
so it wouldn't open even after I removed Safari from the drive?
