I "upgraded" to IE8 (Beta), which is unable to load any web page,
including plain-vanilla HTML on my own computer. Any attempt to load a
web-page results in a crash of the app ("Data Execution error") Multiple
"uninstall"/reinstalls have not been able to resolve that problem, nor
really remove IE8 from the computer. Because of the incomplete
"removal," IE7 refuses to install over a "newer version".
Microsoft is no help, when I wrote them explaining I was locked out of
the web, so don't send me any links, all the genius at "Customer
Service" sent me were links. <sigh>
Of course I had FireFox and Opera, so I wasn't really "locked out of the
web", I wrote that as an intelligence-test for them-- one which they
failed, as expected.
In any case, is there anyone who knows what needs to be done in order to
"roll back" IE8 to IE7? (WinXP Pro SP3, X86, EN) (The links were
useless, of course.)
I've manually edited the registry, removing all references to "IE8"
without avail.
Suggestions for the next step? (Google Chrome doesn't work, either, BTW)

To follow-up on my own post-- I had to call tech support. It took them
a while to get me going, good thing I had another browser, or I'd still
be up the creek.
After sending me hither and thither on the web to get files that were
broken or incomplete, the tech finally gave me a download URL for a 16.8
megabyte program called "IE8 Beta 2 Removal Tool V1.1.exe" ! <g> Which
program did truly and perfectly uninstall IE8 beta 2, whereupon IE7
restored itself automagically. The tech stayed with me during a reboot
and a few tests of web sites to make sure all worked properly.
Microsoft should put that uninstaller on their web site, and not hide it
on some obscure server as they do (

V1.1.exe)
but that was a redirect from some other, almost equally obscure URL.
All's well that ends, eh?
If anyone needs the removal tool and the above link doesn't work, email
me and I'll post the thing to UseNet in alt.binaries.misc.
