I don't seem to be able to access my newsgroup server with IE7.
Can anyone explain how to set up for newsgroups with Verizon?
I'm not very pc savvy so any help will be appreciated.
I assume then, that you've posted this query from some
other system than your own? But someone has made at
least an attempt at a news account if you're mwebsurfer
@ verizon.net, because that's your disclosed identity.
Is that you?
You have to build a news account in your newsreader.
I've not used IE7, but it's normally done in Outlook/OE.
The first thing to do is call/write/email Verizon and get
their news server name(s). it would be something like
"news.server.verizon.net" or "news.dallas.verizon.net".
Then, you initialize Outlook/OE and choose the tools
button. You then select accounts, and then add. Then,
you select news. You then walk through the menus
until the news(aka NNTP) account is completed.
Once complete, your email Outlook/OE will display the
news server name below the email folders. You then
select this server, subscribe to the groups of your choice,
and begin to read and post.
If you really want to use IE, you can read the groups
through Google, and with a registration, post also.
What's you browser(IE7?) email program?, and OS?

Gary news browser is Netscape 7.2 Operating system is XP Pro.
Email is verizon yahoo. I like netscape because you can access
everything in one program but lately it has been having problems
with locking up and getting a xp error message.

Well, if you're using webmail access(Verizon Yahoo), I
don't know exactly how to access usenet other than the
Google access I mentioned. Nor am I familiar with Net-
scape features. Perhaps Netscape contains a news read-
er, but I kinda' doubt it.
You might contact verizon to get their opinion/instructions
on usenet access. They may have some technique for
which I'm unaware.
Here is a usenet search for(+"newsgroup access" +"ver-
zon") to see what the buzz is amongst the verizon comm-
unity.

Alternatively, if you want to stay with webmail, there are
tons of newsreaders out on the net, and many/most are
free. Here's a Google search result of newsreaders.
You can look through the various offerings and perhaps
find one suitable. But, you'll still need the other informat-
ion I mentioned to configure the reader for correct serv-
er access.

And here are some usenet discussions on newsreaders,
to see what others are using:

There might even be web based news readers that won't
require a local installation on your system. But that is just
my own supposition.
