Before upgrading to IE 7, I was able to change IE link shortcut icons on my
desktop using the normal Properties-Change Icon-Browse method. As soon as I
installed IE 7, all the IE links on my desktop changed back to the generic
"e" icon, and I have been unable to change them back to previous icons. The
icon blinks on apply but no change.

HELP!!!

Update: I have tried the Microsoft Help and Support files below without
success.

update 2: Right click on desktop> Properties> Appearance> Effects>
UNcheck>>Use Large Icons. After UNchecking and applying you can once again
change the icon but it's so small it's easier to live with the "e" icon.
