Is it really necessary to click the little tiny "new tab" button before
clicking a URL so that it will open in a new tab?

Seems in Firefox that part is much easier; click a URL and it opens in a new
tab automatically. No need to click a button first.

Am I right? wrong?

Press the CTRL while simultaneously clicking the URL, or if available just
use the middle mouse button.  Or press ALT+ENTER from the address bar or
search box to open in a new tab.  BTW, this is also how FireFox 2.0 works.

Enter "about:Tabs" in the address bar in IE7 for more tips.

My FireFox 2.0 doesn't work that way and I'd find it rather annoying if it
did.

Thanks, guys; I tried with some of my "Favorites".

I have no middle mouse button. If I hold down the Ctrl key, it will *not*
open a new tab. If I click the little "new tab" button, then it will.

Something wrong here?

Well you didn't specify that you were trying to access your favorites,
simply a URL.  I assumed you were selecting a link from an open window.  How
are you accessing your "Favorites"?  Try acessing from the "Favorites
Center" via pressing ALT-I or the "Star" icon, not the drop down from the
"Favorites" on the Menu Bar, then use CTRL key when selecting the link.

Ah, I had assumed that clicking a link in my Favorites drop-down list would
be no different. You are 100% correct; thanks again; finally got
straightened out.

Thanks muchly, Maynard!

Click left mouse button to open URL in same tab, middle mouse button to
