Web sites with background music

I've noticed that when visiting a web site that uses .mid files as
background music, IE turns the MIDI volume to maximum in the mixer panel.

Can that behavior be changed or is it something that must be lived with?  It
is an annoyance if the main volume slider is set quite high.

Oops, I spoke too soon.  It appears that this isn't an IE problem, but a
WinXP problem.  I'll post in one of their newsgroups.
