Repair Installs. Firefox 1.07 and IE 6 are both running on XP sp2.
Everything else is OK now, but Firefox insists on being the default
browser. When I go to IE, it doesn't ask if it should be the default
anymore.

tried every combination in Add/Remove Programs > Set Program Access,
Defaults. Have also tried changing URL file associations in File Types
but Firefox keeps changing them back.

Uh oh...my success was short lived. As soon as I rebooted, the problems
returned. I installed IE6 over the top of itself, but no joy :(
Any suggestions would be welcomed...

Do what you did before with add remove programs and when the IE window comes
up select Repair. Once this is finished and you restart it will ask you,
when you go into IE, if you want IE to be the default, select yes.

Sorry - I don't see any option anywhere in Add/Remove Windows
Components or in the Windows Components Wizard for "Repair" (I am using
XP sp2). Can you be more specific please?
-Thanks

OK, no problem. There are a number of other options. I am running 98 SE and
you can also run the repair from system tools
(Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information). From the tools
menu select Internet Explorer Repair. If that is not there, then access KB
293907 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293907/en-us and scroll down to a
section headed :- How to Repair or Return to Previous Internet Explorer
Installation. Paste or type that highlighted command into the RUN command
and that will do it for you.

I have just found this newer KB article which covers IE and OE for XP and
apparently SE. It is http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378.
