Dear Sir or Madam,
Here I am sending this e-mail in hope that your MS Internet Explorer will
see improvements and become even better.
I use Windows 2000 Professional and have installed all its service packs and
security patches. Also, I have got installed all available patches with MS
Internet Explorer (MS IE v.6), use anti-virus software and have a broadband
internet connection via Local Area Network (LAN). There is a hardware
firewall installed on my machine. all that makes me believe I am well
protected.
Type of job I have been conducting (certain researches) requires constant
access to web pages that (unfortunately) have an inbuilt malicious code.
These are the pages designed to infect users PCs with various scripts,
Trojans, open loads of pop-up windows and try to change MS IE's default
settings. in one word - to cause a damage.
I myself fight all the above by keeping MS IE's security settings on the
highest level (HIGH option).
Setting the security levels in MS IE:
a.. Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom Level
b.. Reset to: Arrow Down/Arrow UP/High/Reset/Yes
c.. Slider Down/File download Enable/Ok/Yes/Apply/OK
Please note that the procedure above requires exactly FIFTEEN (15) mouse
clicks.
Mind you, with the security levels' settings like this I am not able to view
the vast majority of 'NORMAL' web pages that use high-end technologies as
well as active scripting (which is, by the way, disabled in my high-security
level settings).
So, in order to revert the security level to MEDIUM, I do the following:
a.. Tools/Internet Options/Security/Default Level/Apply/OK
Exactly six (6) mouse clicks required. With the previous 16 that ads up to
21 mouse clicks.
I have to undertake that particular operation at least twenty times during
the day. Bearing in mind there are 22 working days in a month it is easy to
calculate that that simple task of adjusting security levels' settings
monthly requires 9240 mouse clicks!
(21 clicks per settings x 20 times a day x 22 working days = 9240 mouse
clicks)
Therefore, I would kindly ask you to create an option within the MS IE (a
button, menu or whatever) using which will enable me to save (memorize) my
security level settings (both HIGH and MEDIUM), so I can fetch them quickly
and simple (i.e. by clicking on the button/level choice/apply) whenever I
need it.
I really do love your MS IE browser that is undoubtedly the best browser on
the market - yet, the problem explained above drives me insane (9240 times
and again!)
Best regards,
Yours truly,
Net

Or you can just switch to the Firefox browser and/or getting Spyware blaster
to help protect you from malicious websites along with using the immunize
feature in Spybot Search and Destroy.

I find this pimping for Firefox in Microsoft newsgroups to be annoying.
Switching browsers does not address the problem with a specific browser.
People in controlled IT environments don't have the luxury of choosing
different software without permission from on high, which is rarely given in
most cases.
