I have a friend, that when they click on music content from internet
explorer via a link...  that should play in windows media player.... nothing
happens.

When I click on the same link, windows media player starts, and the song
plays.

I went into my options for IE6 and in internet options/programs/manage
addons

I see two addons for windows media player that are enabled.

On my friend's computer, the windows media player entries are not even on
the list.

How do I get those addons into internet explorer 6, and is this why windows
media player won't start when my friend clicks on the link?

Thanks!

There could be a whole load of reasons. When I had a similar problem, the
Firewall was blocking the protocols over the internet for WMP. What you can
do first is open the player manually from the Desktop or whatever, go to
Tools and compare all the options under each Tab especially the Network
options. Under the Network Tab you will see the protocols that the player
has been set up to use along with permitted channels. Quite often the
Firewall will block channels that Media Player uses unless you give
permission. A quick check here is to momentarily disable the Firewall and
see if it works.
