I made the mistake of seetting Mozilla to check if it is the default
browser and then answered, "yes." Now, I am unable to restore IE 6.0 as
the default browser using two different methods:
1) Tools/Internet Option/Programs and check "Internet Explorer should
check to see if it is the default browser"
2) Find an HTML file, right click, select Open With, select Internet
Explorer.
Before switching to Mozilla as the default broswer, IE was the default
browser.
Now, Mozilla opens whenever I click on links in an email rather than
Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer never asked (or asks) if it should
be the default browser.
This must be a problem in the registry. What registry settings can I
change to force switching back to Internet Explorer as the default
browser.
Mozilla must have learned some tricks from Microsoft somewhere along
the way. Very irritating.
Thank you.

When I run the Internet Explorer repair tool, once it has finished and the
PC has restarted and you open IE, it always has asked me in the past as to
whether I want it to be the default or not, so run the repair tool and see
what happens.

Alan,
I have IE 6 so apparently there is no repair tool. I decided to
"reinstall" IE 6 SP1 over the top of itself. Probably dangerous to do
but was at a loss of what to do. After this treatment, IE 6 sp1 runs
and is now the default browser. But I am getting occasional errors
today, which did not happen before. So maybe IE 6 is slightly messed
up. We'll see.

John,
There is a repair tool for IE6. You need to access KB article 293907.
Half way down the second page of the article is a section on how to repair
or return to a previous version of IE..
Before that try accessing the Microsoft System Information and then tools
from the start menu. You should see Internet Explorer Repair Tool.

I can find the Internet Explorer section in System Information but
there is no "Internet Explorer Repair Tool."
