When I run .mpg files from the web they now play in Quicktime in the
original browser window with very few controls.  They used to play in
Windows Media Player in its own window with full controls, which is how
I want it.  However if I download and save the file and run it from my
PC it plays in WMP as desired.  I've checked the file association for
.mpg files and this is set to WMP.

I was recently prompted to set QT as the default for certain file
types, and foolishly said yes.  Now it seems to have taken over .mpg
files overriding my preference for these.

How do I make .mpg files run from the web play in WMP in its own window
complete with all controls etc?

Win XP Home.
QT version 6.5.1
WMP version 10.00.00
IE 6.0

TIA

Go into Control Panel and look for the Quick time icon. Look for File Type
Associations and change .mpg and .mpeg to WMP.

Problem sorted.

MP4 & MPG4 associations changed from QT to WMP.

I don't think WMP can play MP4 files. At least it wouldn't on my computer.
Had to use QT.
