Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has run across this problem. I bought a Dell
OptiPlex G1 system (Pentium II- 350 Mhz) as a surplus machine- no memory or
hard drive - HEY It cost me a whopping $10 and the guy selling them had
stackes of them at the outdoor flea market :-). Got it running with all the
necessary hardware and software - Windows 98SE. Went to click on Internet
Explorer only to have a MS-DOS window open up and say............"Invalid
Switch" and then the next line says......"Specified COMMAND search
directory bad" and then three lines more of the "Invalid Switch"
the last line of the window is the path ...... C:\WINDOWS\Desktop
Thanks,
Dan

Internet Explorer is installed with a copy of the application on the
desktop. The icon is NOT a shortcut, but an application. If you right-click
it the Internet Options dialog should appear. If the icon has a shortcut
arrow (lower left, unless hidden with tweakui) it is a shortcut.
You can also try this: If a MSIE is a shortcut delete it, then open Windows
Explorer, go to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ find the "Iexplore.exe"
file and copy it to the desktop. When Windows says "Overwrite?" choose yes.
Restart Windows. If that does not fix it a reinstall of MSIE will fix the
problem. If you do a reinstall be sure to export your address book file
(.wab) to another folder so you don't accidentally loose the addresses.

If there is nothing on this drive you want I suggest that you format the
drive and reinstall Windows clean. You will be much happier with the
results. (c:
