Hi All!

I don't use file drag-and-drop function of IE heavily, but recently I
needed to copy Outlook Express messages to some folder on disk and got
"Error Copying File or Folder" message with text "An error occured
while copying the file".

After that I found that Microsoft Office Outlook gives me the same
message on drag-and-drop to disk and finally I got the same error from
Internet Explorer when tried to drag-and-drop file from it's window
(both in www mode and in ftp mode).

Did someone ever experience such a problem?

I will be grateful for any advice because have bad feeling of Windows
reinstallation :)

Alex.

Try this:

copy/paste the info below to a blank Notepad Document.
save the file as a REG file, not the default TXT - filename not important
double click the reg file and answer YES to the prompt
post back your results

----------------- begin copy below line ---------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"Start_EnableDragDrop"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoChangeStartMenu"=dword:00000000

-------------- end copy above line -------------------

Thanks Jopa,

Unfortunetely this didn't work out. It seems to be not CurrentUser
problem, because I got this error under different users on the same
machine.

Ok. Try this one.

----------------- begin copy below line ---------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartMenu\StartMenuChange\Policy\NoChangeStartMenu]
@=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\Policy\NoChangeStartMenu]
@=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartPanel\EnableDragDrop]
"Type"="checkbox"
"Text"="@shell32.dll,-30475"
"HKeyRoot"=dword:80000001
"RegPath"="Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Advanced"
"ValueName"="Start_EnableDragDrop"
"CheckedValue"=dword:00000001
"UncheckedValue"=dword:00000000
"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartPanel\EnableDragDrop\Policy]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartPanel\EnableDragDrop\Policy\NoChangeStartMenu]
@=""

-------------- end copy above line -------------------

Jopa, thanks for the tips.

Can you please explain what is the meaning of that registry change? I
afraid to do much changes without knowing the objective.

By the way it is only Internet Explorer problem, not Windows Explorer.
Thanks again,
Alex

These are simply the exported registry keys having to do with drag'n drop
from a working system (ie. mine). You are always wise to backup your
registry or create a restore point before applying a reg file.

Jopa,

I tried these settings also (backed up Explorer registry key first) -
no luck. I will try to reinstall Internet Explorer, if this will not
help I will continue to search newsgroups.
Thank you for your help,
Alex.
