Can anyone please assist.

I have XPhome and use internet explorer 6 that came pre installed with my
PC. It has SP 1 loaded for some months and all has worked well.

I am in a student house with a shared broadband connection. All other PC's
working ok.

I download articles from various sites as I am a trainee teacher and need
maps etc for lesson plans. Not sure what happened today but after
downloading some maps, and closing my internet connection, I tried to get
back on to Google , my home page but it said page unavailable.

The network is ok showing 100.0 Mbps   Status : Connected

I have emptied my cookies and temp internet files, still unable to connect.
Turned off the firewall, but still unable to connect ( turned it back on)
Tried system restore, but that could not load a stored point ( why is that
? )

I have run a full virus scan, nothing found. The strange thing is that
Messenger works,.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
