Hi,

I have Windows 2000 and IE6.

If I choose "open (link) in new window", the link will open in the new
window, but then problems start to happen when I close one of the
windows...

If I close the "parent" (original) window, BOTH windows will close
automatically!

If I close the "child" window, that is the one where the new link was
opened into, I get a Windows exception as follows:
"...unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred in the
application at location 0x77e1639e". Then both IE windows close
automatically anyway.

The above is the easiest way to reproduce this problem. In general
"surfing", where links can open in new windows, which can open yet
more windows, etc. closing one of the child windows will cause all IE
windows to crash. This is most inconvenient of course.

I have scanned my PC for spyware, deleted cookies and temporary files,
looked up the microsoft KB (I found a similar article on opening links
in new windows, but the suggestion there to re-register certain
objects didn't work anyway). I also resetted all the security settings
in IE to default, and gone to windows update site to update to latest
patch. All of this without success in solving this problem.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Many thanks,
Meyer.

Never mind...I found the answer. The problem was the BHO installed by
Google desktop search (beta). I removed the BHO and now IE does not
crash.

Meyer.
