I know that this seems like a strange request, so I'll explain using
"History" (the topic, not the folder) as an example:
I'm maintaining multiple hierarchies of topics. I sometimes, for
instance, store a shortcut to an interesting history-related web page
under Favorites / History. I sometimes store it under "My Documents /
History" along with other pages (web or not). Since I use multiple
computers, I may have stored something that I'm looking for under
either hierarchy on other systems.
Also, I often make file system shortcuts so that although I may have a
document or folder of documents under another folder (e.g. "history of
technology" under "technology"), from within my history folder I can
still "see" (a shortcut of) the "history of technology" folder, as
well as shortcuts directly out to the web.
What I'd like to do:
Having my "My Documents" file hierarchy under (and accessible from)
"My Favorites", I would be able to quickly store shortcuts from within
Internet Explorer (while the page is displayed) directly into "My
Favorites / My Documents / History". Because Favorites is accessible
not only from IE, but also from Windows Explorer, I would also be able
to access both documents, and web/file references from the same place.
Once this is set up, I could then set up synchronization with my other
systems so that from anywhere I would know that I could access a
particular document or shortcut/favorite reference to a document
(again, web or not) from the "My Favorites / My Documents / History"
folder from any computer that I happen to be using.
I do have a shortcut to "My Documents" inside "My Favorites", but it
just takes me to that folder (and away from the web page I'm looking
at). I'd like to be able to expand it directly into the "History"
sub-folder the way I can with other folders created inside of IE's
Favorites function. Also, although I can see the My Documents shortcut
from there, I cannot see it when I try to "add a favorite".
I've not had any luck with this task as it seems that because both
Favorites and "My Documents" are special system folders.
Could anyone point me in the direction of how it could be done, an
approach to further experimentation, or a utility that could do this
for me?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

Hi, sorry for the cross posts. As I've not received any response, I
thought I'd try some other groups.
Essentially, I'd like to know if, and how, I could access the "My
Documents" folder from within my bookmarks so that rather than create
a redundant set of folders in favorites, I could simply use what I've
already set up in my file system.
Thanks in advance...

WTF? Maybe you could use TweakUI>Special Folders to make your Favorites
folder and your My Documents folder the same folder. See if that works.
But if I were you I'd just get a decent URL manager and make a database. I
have tried a few but the only decent one I've found is URLBase 5.0 Pro. The
Personal Edition is free. It's a very nice program if you have hundreds of
shortcuts.

Just creat a shortcut for My Docs, and copy it into your Favorites
folder.
