On W2K w/sp4 a previous attempt to upgrade IE5 to IE6 aborted.  Every
attempt now to update results in the same message: A previous installation
has pending work requiring a reboot.  You need to restart your computer to
complete that installation before running Internet Explorer Setup. Setup wil
now close.

Reboot has been done
Proceedures suggested in Microsoft knowledge Base Article - 221863 have been
followed with still no success installing IE6.
What next?

You might want to try to navigate to this key and *after*
exporting it to a reg file, try to delete it from the system, or
scroll down to the option under this key called "IsInstalled" and
change the "1" to a "0"
Either way, it's a good idea to make a backup/export of the
key listed below in case something goes wrong, you can restore the
information.
    The key is:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active
Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
That's the only thing that may clear the problem up.  It's
risky and you need to be certain that you're altering the right key.
Double-check the numbers against the registry and that will help.
