Opening Multiple Versions of IE

When opening IE, I get the standard Home Page.  However, about every 5
seconds thereafter, IE opens again (but to a blank page).  So, after about
30 seconds, I will have 6 IEs open.  If I attempt to close one of these
windows, I get a message saying "This window is busy.  Closing this window
may cause some problems."  The only way to get out of IE altogether is to do
a Ctrl-Alt-Delete.  I have uninstalled IE and downloaded it again, but the
problem continues.  Any suggestions on what to do next would be greatly
appreciated!

As a follow-up, I did a "deep scan" with Ad-aware.  It detected some files
which I deleted and this seems to have (hopefully) solved the problem.
