Somehow I've managed to place my stage in the upper right corner of my
workspace. I don't know how I did it, but it makes it impossible to see symbols
placed to the top and left of the stage area.

Can anyone tell me how to get my stage back in the middle of my workspace?

By upper right corner do you mean upper left corner? If you do then go to the
View menu and check/uncheck "Work Area." This is one of those absolutely
maddening things that if you don't know about it....

Let's just say I had to reinstall my Flash before I found out it was so simple
to fix!

Double clicking the hand tool should recenter the stage.

Thank you for answering. Yes, I meant left not right. My copy of Flash doesn't
have "Work Area" -- or anything similar -- under the View menu. (I'm using 9.)
I looked under all the menus to find "Work Area" and didn't succeed. There is
"Workspace" under the  Window menu, but none of those options have an effect.

I had Flash 8 at work. Evidently in Flash CS3 they decided to change the name to Pasteboard! It is still under the View menu.

When you clicked "Pasteboard" did your stage end up centered within the
pasteboard so that you have pasteboard to the right and left? I have the
pasteboard but it's only to one side and reading books on Flash they state that
you have pasteboard on right and left.
Also, how do you place items in the Pasteboard to have it out of view of the
stage?

When View > Pasteboard is checked, the gray pasteboard area is available on all
sides of the stage (the default). When you remove the checkmark by selecting
"Pasteboard" in the View menu (hitting the keyboard shortcut), the stage aligns
to the upper left of the pasteboard. Having items outside the stage area is
just a normal part of animation. For example, if a character comes onto the
stage from the left, it will begin off the stage to the left. So you need to be
able to see the pasteboard to create such effects. But for the purpose of
viewing your animation, it could be useful to quickly get rid of the pasteboard
area -- and now we know how.

I haven't changed any of the default settings for Flash and when I zoom out
from the stage to about 25% I see the pasteboard on the right, as I look at the
monitor, so that must be the left of the stage. I don't have any Pasteboard on
the other side of the stage. Also, how do you drag something to the Pasteboard?
I click on the object and hold shift so the object doesn't move up and down but
as I move it to an area on the Pasteboard it looks like the stage gets bigger
as the Pasteboard gets smaller. Is my Flash possesed?
