I am having the same problem.  I cannot run Flash.  It seems to load OK, but
when I try to run it, it says I need Flash.  (Firefox is fine, the problem just
exists with AOL)

Has anyone told you a solution?

OMG I think I just fixed it!

If you have Avast! Anti-virus, open the 'On-acess protection control' when you
right-click the icon, then turn the 'Resident Protection' to 'normal' instead
of 'high'!

Hope this helps at least someone!
