I am trying to do the tutorial about learning flash by Jen deHaan:

I am not sure how to go further when I reach step 4 in Creating a
frame-by-frame animation since I cannot press F8 on my Mac to convert it into
another new movie clip symbol.

What do I click to make the changes in steps 4 -14.

F8 is just a shortcut to convert an object into a symbol on PC's.  You can do
the same thing by pressing Ctrl+clicking(right-clicking on PCs) on your object.
Then in the menu that appears choose Convert to Symbol.
