I ran Secunia PSI. It said I needed to update my Adobe Flash Player. I
downloaded the uninstaller from Adobe first and ran it, and then installed the
most recent player. When I go to the test page it says I have the most recent
version.

However, under end-of-life programs Secunia lists the Macromedia Flash Player
8.x version 8.0.24.0 five times for some reason. Then I go into Add/Remove and
I see a listing for Macromedia Shockwave Player (not Macromedia Flash Player).
Under end-of-life it also lists Adobe SVG Viewer 1.x version 1.0.0.94.

I thought I understood that Adobe replaces Macromedia, but now I am so
confused. Are these end-of-life programs creating security risks even though I
do have the latest Adobe Flash Player -- and should I be removing any or all of
the above mentioned Secunia end-of-life items? :confused;

Hi Nikilet,

I am not sure whether you got an answer yet, but I happened to run
Secunia today and had the same problem getting multiple results for
the same media player. I wasn't sure which were still supported, but
Adobe has some information here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_13971&sliceId=2

It appears that there are now two players, flash and shockwave, that
are supported by Adobe. Each serves a slightly different purpose so
you should download the latest versions of both. Also, you might want
to download a better uninstaller, such as Revo Uninstaller (found
here: http://www.download.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html).
It's free and does a much more complete job of uninstalling software
than the "Add or Remove" feature found on Windows.

What I have done is to completely uninstall all versions of any Adobe
media player that I see by using Revo and then starting over by going
to the Adobe site to download the newest versions of the flash and
shockwave players. After again running Secunia, I no longer had
repeats of any old versions on my computer. I also deleted all
Macromedia players as the Adobe stuff supersedes it.

Hope this helps you out!

Oh, and in order to avoid any confusion with Adobe Flash, you might
