is there a limit to irregular button shapes?

I would like to use a complicated image with many irregular shaped structures
and have each structure respond differently.

for example an image of a car engine and depending upon what part of the
engine is clicked (radiator, carborator, fan belt, water pump, alternator, etc)
the response would be different.

would I need to create the image out of a bunch of differnt layers and attach
a script to each of those layers? (not really sure if flash works that way -
I'm just now learning of its capabilities)

thanks.

Take the image of the car engine and place it on a layer, then lock that layer.
Create a new layer on top. Using any of the drawing tools, create the shape
that would outline that particular area. When finished with that one area,
convert that shape (I usually just use a solid red color) into a button. Open
that button to edit it, and move the shape in the "up" button state to the
"hit" state. This will essentially create an invisible button. Do this for the
rest of the car's engine. Either give each button an instance name and place
all your action script in a new frame above all the other layers, or place
action script within each button (whichever method you prefer).
