I've noticed that there are many questions concerning the FLV playback. And no
one answers.
Question: how can I add a seperate progress bar connected to an flv that is in
a control skin? Reason: slow computers and European viewers, don't see
anything. Thanks, Bobi

What are you asking? Do you want a pre-loader? So when it takes a
while for the flv to load they see a progress bar? If so, then google
Flash preloader. Google Preloader, then look at the FLVPlayback
events and put them together.

.... people are probably not answering because your question is a bit vague.

I actually posted what I believe is a fairly detailed question about
flvplayback as well as netstream at the following link
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=15&catid=19
4&threadid=1376687&enterthread=y
And got no answers ... but it's probably too difficult a question. I have
posted it in many places and receive neither an answer or a request for more
details.

It's not too difficult of a question. It just seems as if you aren't looking
hard enough for the answer yourself. If you look in the help files like I
suggested, you can build your own progress bar. Also, in reading your post you
referred to below, it seems as if you are just now getting into learning Flash.
Too many people get on here wanting help with advanced tasks when they haven't
even learned the basics of Flash. Imagine how hard it is to help someone with a
simple button when they don't even know how to create a button. The fact is,
there should be no reason you would need an extra progress bar in the first
place if you are using a custom flash skin. You aren't going to code one
yourself any better (relatively) than what Flash provides. Building your own
progress bar isn't going to benefit anyone on a slow connection anyway, so I
don't understand why that seems to be a concern to you. If no one is answering
your questions, it's probably because of all the reasons I stated above. I've
already answered your questions...

There are no moderators per se. This is a user to user forum and everyone here
is a volunteer.
And rritchey has hit it on the head. Your question is vague. And I'm not sure
I understand how adding more content to a page that doesn't load on slow
computers for European viewers would help. It seems like it would go the other
way.
So, what is it that you have? Can you send a link?
What is the exact problem? What have you done to test the problem?
Shan-Dysigns - 11 Jul 2008 18:09 GMT
I was going to reply to this last night, but after thinking about it, I didn't
send the post. It is true about your question being vague. If you imported a
flv file into Flash, and used one of its custom skins, there shouldn't be any
reason you need anything beyond that (especially is you want to add something
to it that's already provided). Also, you can search in Flash under "flv
playback" under the AS2 components, and you should see the flv class with every
possible parameter to use. Look for "flvplayback.progress", and within that
help, you will see links to ".bytesloaded", ".bytestotal", etc. and even an
example how to make your own progress bar (which I think it what you wanted to
add initially).

The unfortunate thing about these forums is that they are user-driven. Because
of this, if your question is vague, or very complex, or for any other number of
reasons, your question may not get answered. Also, if it falls off of the
first page of results, it is highly unlikely that it will get answered (at
least from my experience). Users will frequently not want to spend the time
necessary to get questions clarified, nor even to tell people that their
question is vague, or too difficult, instead leaving them wondering why their
question is not getting answered.
I myself have several critical posts on multiple flash forums that I have
spent hours trying to solve myself, and need the help on, but they have yet to
be answered, after more than a week. I don't take it personal, I will just
keep on bumping it up until someone decides to respond to it (whether that is
to answer the question, or to ask for more clarification)
