I have been reading about MS Silverlight and how it may give some pretty stiff
competition to Flash. Any Flash experts care to comment?... (particularly
regarding the relatively steep learning curve required by the latter...)

And Flash doesn't have a steep learning curve?

I understand Flash was made for the Art community but since the advent of CS3
and Flex, it's moving to a more "developer centric" application.  Which I like
since I'm a developer and not a graphics artist.

What I'm finding is that Flash is so dumbed down that when I want to do
something more "under the hood," so to speak, Flash tries to stop me from
shooting myself in the foot.  THis is particularly true for MXML.

Having said this, I won't be looking at Silverlight until it has reached the
market saturation of Flash which will probably never.

By "the latter" I meant Flash...

Yeah, we knew that - and I'd not call Flash dumbed down either. In fact I
might call Silverlight that as Flash is much more robust and capable -
especially given the developer centric nature of CS3 and AS3. I've read a
good deal about SL and watched too many YouTube videos - and IMO Flash has
nothing to worry about anytime soon.

The only advantage I see that silverlight has is live video. And if
Adobe would give away their media server that advantage would go away.
