I'm trying to create a Flash movie that will stop and start a music clip but
despite searching the web I seem to be missing something. I've put the buttons,
the music clip and the actionscript on separate layers. Well, rather than
explain everything the .fla file is at

Thanks for your help...

The way you were attempting to control the sound is time-line based. In order
to do that (even though it's not a good way), you would need to create a movie
clip, add the sound to the first frame, extend the frames to allow the whole
sound to play, then use buttons to mcName.stop(); or mcName.play();, but you
have such a short sound clip, you don't have enough playing to really test
anything.

You can use linkage identifiers to control the sound.

Ah - thank you. That wasn't what I was intending to do. The music I intend to
use is almost 10mins long. And it would be useful to use with different mp3
files. I'll have to look at the .fla file in the morning on my Windows PC.

Thanks again

Again, thanks for getting it to work for me. I've added soundPosition = 0; to
the stop button to complete that.

I have a couple of questions. How is soundClip related to the mp3 file? And if
I wanted to use an external mp3 file without embedding it in my .fla file how
would I do that please?

Thanks
