I was recently given a project where I was asked to take one of the 8.5 x 11
print ads that I created and convert it into a flash file with some animation
on it. I know you can't have a file larger than 9.6 x 9.6, so I was wondering
how I could still achieve this... or if I can achieve it (its for one of our
online publications). Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Shannon

If you can use Flash's vector-based drawing tools to recreate the ad, then you
can scale it to the 8.5 x 11 size to create it, and when you size it for online
it will still have clean lines and color areas.

Larger than 9.6 x 9.6 whats? Units are important! I'm sure on your 8.5 x 11
print ad you mean inches, which make sense for the print world. But on a
monitor (and in Flash) inches don't really make sense.
It is important to keep the ratio of the sides the same so NedWebs suggestion
of 850 x 1100 pixels would accomplish that. I don't know about your target
audience, but I've got a 20 inch monitor running at 1280 x 1024 and I would
have to scroll to see the 1100 direction -- and that would be if absolutely no
pixels were used up by browser chrome.
Generally you don't want people to have to scroll to see the regular content,
much less ads.
So I'm not really clear on what kind of advice you need/want. If this is for
an established online publication, they probably have a size, both in terms of
pixel dimensions and file size that you will need to follow. I would contact
them to see what they require.

all I needed to do was convert the image size to 72 dpi lol don't know why that didn't cross my mind in the first place :)
