I read in the updater for Flash MX 2004 that the MM team was in its final stages of rewriting Flash Remoting for 2.0 and that we should keep our eyes peeled over the next few weeks. Is there any new estimated time of arrival for the 2.0 version of remoting classes? Will we seem them before the holidays? It would be helpful to know when I can actually start developing using my flash 2004 in all its glory instead of it sitting like a 300 pounds paper weight becouse I've been advised not to mix and match components btw 2.0 and 1.0 components. THANKS!!!

Yes but are they 1.0 components or 2.0?
My understanding is that the existing "updated" remoting components are just 1.0 actionscript with modifications that let them run in MX 2004 as 1.0 components. In other words you can't really use the 2.0 actionscript components with remoting yet. MM itself says don't mix 1.0 and 2.0 actionscript components.

This is precisely the reason why I will not upgrade to MX 2004.  They ABSOLUTELY released this product before it was ready.  I will not purchase it until they get their act together and release a product that is stable, has full documentation (I should not have to go to the Macromedia web site to get help), and the components work with flash remoting.

I am perfectly happy with Flash MX.  Why would I upgrade?  I see no reason.

I'll let someone else debug it...

The remoting components at that link work fine...I have been using them
with 2004 for a little while now and the seem to do just fine. BTW the
new "Remoting Connector" is total crap.  And I have to agree a little
with jpryz there too...they released too early. The product is not
finished I don't care what any person at Macromedia says to defend
it...I love Flash, but I am starting to despise Macromedia for their
business practices.

I believe the only way that this can be addressed is to "hit them where it hurts".  Although I really like the MX tool suite, I will not upgrade just to have the latest tools.  I have production environments that need to run, too.

I won't tell you the company I work for, but it is one of the Fortune 100 companies.   I will simply wait until the next upgrade comes out and evaluate it again.  In the meantime, Macromedia will be out my upgrade fee(s) and it will hurt their bottom line.  Perhaps when they really find out why people aren't upgrading they will have learned a lesson from it.

Offering me 7 free extensions to buy a product does not entice me... having a stable product with complete documentation and examples does.
