Hi Forum

I need to put together a basic chat room.  I have done this years ago in
director.  but I'm totally out of the loop when it comes to flash server side
stuff.

What would be requried to develop a chat?  on the server side?

How does the communication work?  Through XML Sockets?

Are there plug and play solutions out there for this that allow some
modification for the designer?  I'm not super keen on doing this to be honest
:-)

What kind of monthly costs will I need to expect for the server side stuff
(extra software, any certificates...?)

Any help or insight appreciated.

Best

stephan

Get a web host that has Flash Communication Server installed.  A great host
that has this pretty cheap is MediaTemple.
http://www.mediatemple.net/services/webhosting/ss/linux-standard/
Go to that link, then check the Flash Comm server add-on that is on the left
side of the page.

With Flash Comm, you will probably get some prebuild tools for chat and
audio/video chat.  Then all you have to do is just customize that .FLA file to
get it looking the way you want.  Upload to the server and you are off and
running.
