I've been using Flash MX 2004 Pro for nearly 2 years, relying heavily on Flash
Remoting. After installing Flash 8 and uninstalling Flash 2004, I got the
following message:

Error opening URL "http://localhost/flashservices/gateway".

I found Flash Remoting for Flash 8 and installed that. Same error. I
reinstalled Flash 2004 and Flash Remoting for 2004. Same error. I've moved
files into numerous folders. Same error.

I have the files mentioned in forums as being necessary like Netservices.as in
the following folders:

C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash 8\en\First Run\Classes\mx\remoting
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash 8\en\First Run\Include

After reviewing every reference to Flash Remoting I could find on MM's site
and other forums/blogs, I have come here. After 6 or 7 hours of trying to solve
this problem, I'm asking for help from Macromedia or anyone. It is very
frustrating that the Flash Remoting installer can't configure this critical
component to RIA development.

As a follow-up to my post, I added the necessary files to C:\Documents and
Settings\(user name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash
8\en\Configuration\Include, as was suggested in another post. It is still not
working.

Is there anyone out there willing and able to help? Macromedia?

Hi,
I also have used Flash MX 2004 and remoting for a while and then I uninstalled
it and installed Flash 8 and hit some problems. Then I downloaded and installed
Flash Remoting for Flash 8 and still had trouble. Then I looked at the technote
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=46f3d4ac and
installed the hotfix it mentions. I followed the examples and it worked fine.
The only change to my previous code was to change the #include "NetServices.as"
to an import and then everything worked as before. Have you looked at that
hotfix? Can you get down to a simple test file that doesn't work? Can you show
me the code for the simple test?
Cheers,
Steve
