Remoting timeouts

Is it possible to specify the timeout of a remoting call?

And is _global.System.onStatus the only way to handle them?

which server side language are you using?

_global.System.onStatus only seems to work if the server is reached but fails
to respond in time.

Is there any way to stop remoting trying after a certain timeout? Regardless
of wether the server is contacted or not.
