I recently attended the MAX 2004 Conference in New Orleans and it essentially
opened my eyes to the possibilities of "true" web application development using
Flash and Flash remoting.  We've been a ColdFusion shop for quite a while, now,
and appreciate the ability to deploy robust applications to the web quickly and
relatively painlessly but, let's face it, anything deployed in a pure
ColdFusion/HTML/JavaScript etc. environment still looks and behaves like a Web
application.  I have no doubt that Flash and its remoting capabilities will
take us to the next level of application deployment via the web.  The only
problem is learning it.....

I just purchased and installed Flash MX 2004 to begin my forray into the world
of "RIAs".  I've been working with the example files (not very well documented)
in the Remoting Examples folder in the Flash MX 2004 installation directory and
something has got me completely stumped.  The files in question are
CustomerInfoExampleCon.fla and it's corresponding Actionscript file
CustomerInfoForm.as.  I've got the examples working perfectly - the compiled
swf file pulls data from an Access database just as it's supposed to.  However,
in looking over the "magic" behind the scenes that creates the DB connection
and renders its content, I can't find where the actionscript file is "included"
or imported within the .fla file.  I've searched the updated ActionScript2
reference that I downloaded from the Macromedia site, I've searched the
knowledgebase and forums, I've torn apart every visible line of code in the
.fla file, but I can't find the method used to include the .as file.  Just for
fun, I moved the .as file to a different directory (than the .fla file) and
attempted to recompile the .swf file and, as I expected, the recompilation
generated errors indicating that the .as file was not found.  The error message
indicated that the file was invoked from layer 3, frame 1, line 1 but I can't
find anything in that layer that's calling CustomerInfoForm.as.

I've made quite a bit of progress working with Flash and Flash remoting over
the last few days, but this one has me bamboozled.  Anyone out there have the
missing piece of the puzzle???

Much Obliged,

Upon further investigation, I found how the .as file is included.  Since I've
seen the question (but no solution) asked here at least one other time, I will
post it here for reference.

The external Actionscript file is actually a class that extends the
mx.screens.forms class.  Selecting any screen in the Forms tree and then
expanding the Properties panel will reveal the Class Name, in this case,
CustomerInfoForm.  Mystery solved!
