I am very new to Flash trying to learn on my own... I am trying do create a
simple flash movie of photos fading in and out. I have found tutorials online
and each one says to make keyframes, etc - then use the color "Alpha" in the
Properties inspector. I do not have COLOR under Properties - what is going on
here?? I am using Flash 8.
Thanks for any help!

Some properties belong to the frame and some properties belong to the
object occupying the frame. Color is a property of the object in the
frame. So, at the keyframe, select the movieClip that you want to fade,
with the clip selected, you should see the Color option at the right of
the Properties window. The tween property belongs to the keyframe
itself. So you have to select the keyframe in the timeline window to set
the tweening for your fade.

You will have to convert the photos to "symbols". Only symbols can be given
Alpha and Color property changes.
Another way to fade would be to use actionscript, but currently that is out
of my scope
