I've just seen this very neat menu system I want to use for my own site, but
being a Flash novice, I can't quite get my noodle on how its done.

http://www.dontclick.it/

I can do basic animations and mouse on/over/out events but this seems a lot
more complex; Specifically when the cursor moves onto a main menu link it
pushes the other menus out the way and scales and rotates up the underlying
text, also when leaving any main menu how do you get back to the menus original
start state, e.g. the menus roll back and squash together, If you look at the
site you'll get what I'm rambling about.

Appreciate any help, pointers or tutorials in getting this to work.

:confused;

You're gonna need to learn a whole lot of actionscript to make this work
properly.  Working with animations on the timeline just won't cut it in this
case.

You need a solid couple of months to get the basics, and a site like this
probably took a professional quite some time.

Not to burst your bubble.

Good luck.

Well I like to aim high !

Thanks for the response, I'd rather have high hopes and know what I'm up against from the start, rather than blindly fumble into it only to get stuck months later !!!

You'll have a great journey, then :)

Hello,

Actually, the timeline will be of help here, but with a good dose of
ActionScript of course.

The key to creating such a piece is to use NESTED MOVIECLIPS.

A movieclip within a movieclip within a movieclip  within a movieclip and so
on...

Then you need to add  ActionScript for hotspots detection and playhead control

Best regards,
Karl Sigiscar.

OK sounds like something I can almost get my head around with a bit of blagging, any pointers to any tutorials for this ?

Hello,

No, I know of no tutorials for this.

But recently, I developed an interactive World Map for a company and I asked
the designer to create just that: nested movieclips. Destinations dots mc
within countries mc within continents mc within a world mc. So, we have four
levels of nested movieclips.

Best regards,
Karl Sigiscar.
