Folks...
I have a graphic of a fictional planet:
(check it out here, at my test site:
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3yjbu/artlinks.htm)
...that I need set in motion.
It's the same graphic that appears (in part) here, in the header of my website:
http://www.moonjams.com/main.htm
You'll notice that the space ship is traveling left to right. I need the
planet (or mass, or whatever you want to call it)...to rotate, right to
left (opposite the ship)...so as to give the illusion that the ship is
traveling around the planet.
A) Can it be done (to look realistic)?
2) What would it cost me?
Thanks very much,
mark4man

on this project then?

From what i can tell, Flash cannot handle a 3D animation. There are other
programs that can create the animations in 3D. One way that i have found which
could help you out is to create a mask over the planet and have the objects of
the planets move behind the mask. This will give the appreance of a spherical
animation. Let me know if you need more assistance or better explanation.

Hey there....
the first link in the post is dead... says not found on server.
Josh was correct...3d is not very easy to do in flash, but 3D effects can be
faked depending on what you want to do.
If you can fix that link I will take a look at the image and at least tell
what could or could not be done with it in flash.

The link is fixed (I had a rouge parentheses at the end.)
Thanks,

it does look like there is not much you could do. I would be willing to help you out if you'd like. Just let me know.

perhaps this is what you are looking for.

There isn't a whole lot your going to be able to do with that image. If you had
the full globe it maybe somewhat doable, but with such limited artwork it would
probably not turn out the way you are picturing in your mind.
Good luck

It's OK to get creative on this. I realize the mass is a mirror image (& as
such doesn't have a point of referrence from which to give the illusion of
rotation)...but how about a rotating external grid? I've seen planet
animations where the surface remains stationary, but there's a globular (yet
linear structural) grid just above the surface that rotates. You could do the
same thing with this...the mass could remain stationary w/ the grid rotating to
the left. Use your imagination...make it look like a sci-fi force field, or
something.
How about something like that?

one more feeble attempt for you. Sorry for the hitch in the animation.
