Hey you all,
Please have a look at this site http://www.mtnonline.com/index.asp How was the
flash-like (white in color) effect that goes round the edges of the guy holding
the phone done?
Thanks in anticipation.

i cant see any such effect - but i do see very basic shape tweens that are
masked in other places - or they could be motion tweens - or even
frame-by-frame - all in all, basic flash animations - dont really see anything
here with that certain *wow* factor - was i supposed to click on anything?

That's just a gradient fill being moved behind a mask.
I agree, nothing special.

Yeap... It's a simple mask behind the image.
I think that this effect would work much better
with PNG image file.

Sorry.. I guess that the image is a PNG file yet,
but it looks so alias sometimes.... Hunnn

yeah - thos images aren't exactly high quality - not sure if developer knew how to achieve a nice feathered edge with an alpha channel or not - the aliasing is *cheap* looking.

Thanks you all for your comments. It seems kind of cheap and easy to you all,
but I am a novice here and I love that effect. My question was, HOW IS IT DONE?
I'll appreciate it if anyone sends me a tutorial or explains to me how it is
done.
Thanks in anticipation.

i dont think any of these comments were aimed to insult you or anybody.
i also believe we answered the question - basic tweens with a mask. if you
don't know what any of that means then you really should try and do the built
in lessons that come with flash - specifically the lesson on animation - it
discusses how the timeline works and keyframes, tweens - all the basics. not
trying to flame here so please dont fire back at me - really trying to just
help - but everyone should at least do their part - or at least tell us your
skill level so we dont have to re-type an entire chapter from the help docs.
basically to recap - the effect i *think* you want (because i don't think i am
seeing it) is a shape with a color mixed with a little alpha - or a solid shape
converted to a symbol and the instance of the symbol has an alpha transparency
- either way - this shape or instance is simply being motion tweened under a
mask that you define.
again if any of this is foriegn to you then you will have nothing but problems
from any forum and i highly recomend spending an hour or so with the lessons.
www.kirupa.com has some good tuts fyi.
hope this helps.

will - if you end up needing a quick sample - just lemee know ok?
frustratedandconfused - 27 Jun 2004 10:37 GMT
it seems like everythings already resolved, but I have located a decent
tutorial that details the process that will get you the effect it seems like
you want.

...just my two cents.

nice tutorial - thanks for posting.

Thanks frustratedandconfused, I guess you were the only one that wasn't "confused" about what I wanted.
Thanks a lot.

Big Will...
just for the record, my reply did explain this process - although clearly not
as in-depth as the tutorial provided - but the issue here was the example you
originally suplied does not contain the effect you wanted in an visually
obvious way - so it makes it hard for anyone to be specific if your example
isn't specific - ultimately, glad your answer was solved - it just didnt need
to take this many people and this many replies for such an effect - in the end
it takes more time from more people and makes you wait even longer for the
answer - but as i said, one of my posts had explained the basic effect from a
couple days ago - and if you needed a sample or a tut i asked you to let me
know, especially if we don't know your skill level and how familiar you are
with flash.
