Hi,
Should be an easy one for most of you. I have a series of letters from the
alphabet acting as buttons on a movie. Around each letter I want to make a
small box so that when the user goes near the letter the mouse pointer becomes
a hand (because it is a button). I want this box to be invisible but still be
recognised by the pointer. I have made 2 layers (1 for letter and one for box)
and masked the box, which makes it invisible, but the pointer doesnt recognise
it either. Is there any way I can make this box around each letter invisible
but have the mouse pointer recognise it?
thanks

You don't need to create the masked box or seperate layers at all.
Simply double-click on your button instance - the area where the timeline is
normally displayed now changes, giving you the opportunity to define the
behaviour of this button (ie. how it appears with mouse-over, mouse-click etc).
You can refine the appearance of the button in various states using the 'up',
'over', 'down', and 'hit' options. The 'hit' option is the one you need to work
with. Simply create a keyframe in the 'hit' area and define the area you want
to be included as a button (ie. the box you were creating previously). Don't
worry about colours etc of the box as this will be invisible to the user.
I hope this helps
