Hi,

Is there a way in which Flash can use a magnification for the entire site
including text as well as the images. The only tutorial that I can find is for
images only but I'd like the user to use it for use on the whole page. Can
anyone help with suggestion please?  :confused;

Thanks,

Martin

I can think of several ways to accomplish a broader magnification. You could
build a tool for the user to select a larger, or smaller, font size for any
text field. This would work within a reasonable range of sizes. A second method
would be to place each textField in its own movieClip and then allow that
movieClip to float above the rest of the stage and enlarge on demand. In other
words, the clip containing a textField would be pushed to the front and
enlarged when it gets focus. It would move back to its original location when
it looses focus. Another method would be to place the entire movie in a
movieClip and allow the movie to enlarge and reduce on demand.

One of these might do what you want to accomplish.

Thanks for the advice Rob!

Would this work for say for visually impaired users? Putting the text into a
text field would mean that the page would be 100% Flash enabled whereas I was
kinda hoping that only certain parts would be and that the user could use the
magnification to view the site.

If only a certain part of the page can be used with Flash or the entire page
is 100% Flash can you advise on how best to go about this?

Thanks for this so far,

Martin

You could use Flash to accomplish what you want, you just need to think about
the interface that will work for your users. If your users are using Macs, then
there is a built in magnification tool that will change the screen resolution.
I believe that there is something similar built in to Vista.

Alternately, you can Javascript to create some functions that will change the
size of html text on the browser window.

Thanks for the advice Rob, however, would it still be possible to create
something in Flash that could be used on sites if downloaded could be sued on
other sites or would just used on the one site be the only way for this to
happen?

Thanks,

Martin

You lost me. Tell me what your goal is. I understand that you want to enlarge text. But I don't know what you want to accomplish.

lol... ok.. :smile;

I'm hoping to enlarge text in Flash CS3 however I've hit on an idea that
perhaps there's a way in which a user can download a flash file so that they
can view the site with the enlarged text etc as opposed to simply having to be
on that particular site.

I feel that I maybe trying to do the impossible here, would I be right on that?

Thanks,

Martin

Possibly. You could create a Flash app that will take in an external text file
and let the user set the font size. This could sit in a web browser, or it
could be a downloadable executable file.

There is no way that you can create an add on application that you can use on
any existing Flash movie to enlarge the text after the Flash file has been
published.
