A company is developing a new online training interface for my company. It is
being controlled with XML and uses a flash player as the skin for all of the
courses. This is a rather complex system it includes a customizer to be able to
change templates, color, text, languages, to add, delete, or change a course.
The company doing this for us is telling us that this can?t be run off our
server like our older versions. They are saying that the companies using our
online training programs will need to download it to their desktop and launch
the program locally. This is a problem because a lot of our large company
clients don?t allow their workers to download things and don?t want to allow
it. It sounded more to me that they just didn?t know how to do it so they said
it had to be done this way.

I would really appreciate any feedback you might have. I am not a programmer
so I don?t know much about this stuff. I am a designer and I know how to
program interactions in Flash but that is the extent of it.

Thanks so much!

Not quite sure what the question you want answered. Flash movie files can
accessed from a server and in turn communicate with the server. The Flash
movie and media assets are downloaded to the users machine. If properly
designed for an eLearning app, a general shell movie starts the ball rolling
and it in turn communicates with server data and downloads learning modules,
pages and so on demand.

What is being downloaded? A pure Flash projector? A Flash movie wrapped in a
third party application? What are the reasons for having an install? Is it
making an entry in the registry to mark the copy of the program because the
program is purchased?
