I'm doing a job that pulls text from an .xml file and dispays in a dynamic text
field. The problem I'm running across is that it also has to be able to take
french characters such as ?. Whenever I just type the character ? into the XML
file it doesn't read it instead showing a black diamond with a white question
mark in it. How can I get the french characters to show?

1. Are you including all characters in the TextField if you selected to
embed fonts? French characters may need to be embedded.

2. Does the Font allow those types of characters?

The font definitly has the french characters, I'm sticking with just Helvetica
for the project. I'm not sure about the first part, this is all new to me so
I'm kind of peiceing together tutorials and things I find. As of now assume
that I haven't embedded anything, what would be my next step?

Thanks for the help!

You still may have a problem on non-Windows machines. Not sure how a Mac
would handle it.

As to the first part, in Flash 8 authoring to Flash 8 player there is an
Embed button in the properties window for a dynamic TextField. In other
versions I believe the button is labeled Character.

Actually I am working on a MAC, and I only have flash MX, but your right under
character you can embed different characters. When I do that though the special
character doesn't show up at al, it seems to just be ignored by flash.

Duh - Helvetica of course you are a MAC.

I am not the expert on this, but I think you need one of the Latin choices.

You may find more help in the Flash General forum if you repost there.
