Following helpful suggestions from my earlier post, I've had a go at
re-doing the menu in css without javascript.

Please would you let me know if things have improved.

Old version at www.burnistonparishcouncil.org.uk/fromscratch.htm

New version (with temporary border round menu) at
www.burnistonparishcouncil.org.uk/marktwo.htm

Many thanks,  Jools

Looks pretty good to me. <h1> is probably not the best markup for your
menu links - maybe <h2>?

the w3c link underlays your menu on my system.

Erk, hang on, in IE6 the 'body' underlays the menu (maybe you've set the
left margin different to the menu width?).  In fact it's pretty broken
in IE6 - http://porjes.com/sshot.gif.  Menu looks good though!

Hi, I checked in IE6 for Win XP, and the left menu block overlapped the
text. In Mozilla 1.0 for win xp it looked fine, except that when I
resized the window to smaller than some 1000 px, the text went under the
floating menu. Regards, Richard
