After many installs and uninstalls, I cannot get the Coldfusion 8 Developer
edition to install correctly on my work computer. I've installed this program
on two other computers without a problem.

My setup:
Window XP pro working in a Windows 2003 environment
IIS 5.1
Colfusion 8

I ran through the install wizard and I'm certain everything was installed
correctly. Coldfusion was installed on my C drive and also in my IIS folder.
When I try to access the Administrator page, I get a 500 error.  I also cannot
create or view any .cfm extensions. I know my IIS is working properly because I
can view .html pages through the my localhost address. I've also ensured that
permission for the CFIDE folder were viewable the scripts permissions were
enabled. What the heck am I doing wrong. Any help or direction would be greatly
appreciated.

thanks,
-john

Have you reviewed the log files created whenever ColdFusion installs
itself?  Any errors or warnings in them?

Thanks for your reply,

Yup, I was just looking through my log file again, and everything looks like
it was successfully installed. The last install action recorded indicates that
http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm successfully opened in a
browser. When I try to open the page, all I get is an error.

After two days of trying to install Coldfusion 8 on my work PC, I'm at a
complete stand still and I'm not sure what to do from here. I've installed
Coldfusion 8 and the install logs shows it has successfully installed. I've run
the web service configuration tool for IIS and everything looks good. In my
services window I have the following services running:

Coldfusion 8 .net service
Coldfusion 8 application server
Coldfusion 8 search server

I do have a hunch that jrun is not running correctly. When I run
coldfusion8\runtime\bin\jrun.exe I get the following error:

no jndi.properties file was found in admin's server directory. The JRun kernel
requires JNDI information.

Also, when I installed Coldfusion on my home computer, I do remember seeing
ISAPI filters in my default web site properties window. I do not see any
filters here on my work computer. Could this be a problem?

Can someone tell me what all this means?

thanks,

john

before install make sure that you disable and quit any and all
anti-virus and firewall apps you may be running.

network security policies at work may prevent successful install, too -
check with your sysadmins.

Azadi,

Thank you for responding!! This has been a huge PITA! It must be my antivirus
and group policy settings. I was able to get the admin to turn off the
antivirus software, but I was not able to disable my firewall. The disable
check box on the firewall window is greyed out and must be controlled  by a
group policy. I'll see if I can get this turned off and try the install again.

Can you unplug the computer from the network during the install?  There
should be little need to be actually connected to the network while CF
is installing as far as I know.

I am having the exact same issues on a stand-alone system.  I turned off the
firewall and anti-virus and installed again.  There is NO indication of an
installation error, but it still gives 500 error trying to run the
Administrator.
I examined the IIS setup and it has an application name entry, it is set to
"Low" as the older solutions suggest.
I agree that it looks like the Java is not running correctly.
