Installation problems in Win2003

I attempted to install the trial version of Cold Fusion MX, and the
installation stalled toward the end of the process.  After a long while, I
clicked cancel, and then stood there again for longer than 2 hours waiting for
anything to happen.  At this time, using the Task Manager, I ended the process.
I have now, an installation that does not work.  I tried to uninstall it, and
I get an error.  The error is this:  "The uninstallation could not complete due
to an error."

I thought the downloaded installer might have been the issue, so I downloaded
it again, and I tried installing again, and the same thing happened.  Now I
have 2 installations that I am unable to use or install.  Can you please help
me to get these uninstalled and a good installation up and running?

Thank you for all of your help.

Here are the manual uninstall instructions for Coldfusion MX installation:

http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/manual_uninstall.htm

Go through the manual uninstall instructions and before trying to re-install
Coldfusion MX 6.1 make sure to go through the "Verify the following before
reinstalling:" section in the above tech doc.

If the re-install does not work - post the installation log here.    The log
is located under {cf_root}\cfusionmx\Macromedia_ColdFusion_MX_InstallLog.log

Lisa,

I appreciate your help in uninstalling the server.  That part worked.
Unfortunately, the re-installation did not.  Because the installation never
finishes, there is no log.  I'll tell you exactly where it stalls, though.

It says, "Installing... Installing web server connectors"

After that, I have to kill the process and try again.

I think it has something to do with the fact that the IIS Server I am trying
to install it on is a non-standard setup.  It is on an IP Address that is not
127.0.0.1.  This machine has many IPs.  Also, it does not reside on the C drive.

I ran through the installation again, but not setting this server up (although
this is the only way I can test the product, since this is the IP address that
I can access from outside my network).  When I chose only to set up the default
web site at "c:\inetpub\wwwroot," the installer didn't hang... although... it
said that it could not start the cold fusion service.

Further help is needed.

Thanks,

Gabriel

Uninstall again but this time when you install choose the internal webserver.
Once Coldfusion is working then we can work on configuring CFMX to work with
IIS.  There are 2 parts to the installation.   After the files are installed
the first time you hit the CFMX Administrator the second part happens - the
Configuration/Migration wizard.

Let me know if you are able to get CFMX running with the internal web server
first then you can try running the  Web Server Configuration tool to configure
IIS with CFMX.

Lisa,
I have installed Cold Fusion MX 6.1 on Windows 2003 server (IIS 6). After
installation is done , it asked for the username and password, I typed the
username as administrator and password *****. After that it tries to open the
page but it come up as an error that Page can not open. The site it tries to
open is: http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
When I tried to configure it from; start-programs-coldfusion-configure
it gives me erro as:
WSConfig.exe-Entry point not found.
The procedure entry point_jvm_GetclassAccessFlags@8 couldnot be located in the
dynamic link library jvm.dll.
Please help me to complete installation and configuration part.
I have checked in Task manager, jrun.exe is ruuning. I think, there is
something to be configured in IIS. Thank you.

There is no username and password logon for the Coldfusion Administrator only
password on the log on page.
How did you install Coldfusion?  Server install or J2EE install?
When you say username and password are you really talking about the RDS enable
part of the Confuration and Migration Wizard part of the installation?
What is the exact error when the Page can not open?

Is there a Coldfusion Application Server Service or a Macromedia JRun cfusion
Server Service in the Service panel?   Did you choose to configure IIS during
the installation?
What is in your installation log? Macromedia_ColdFusion_MX_InstallLog.log

I need more information to help.

Lisa,
I did server install. I could not open the page
http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/Administrator/index.cfm. It gives me error as
Http 404 - File not found.
There is a Coldfusion Application Server Service in the Service panel. No, I
didnot choose to configure IIS during the installation.
I checked the Macromedia_ColdFusion_MX_InstallLog.log file, it is like:
95 Sucess, 0 Warning, 0 Non Fatal error, 0 Fatal error.
Action notes: None
Install log details: Success for each.
Please let me know if you need more information. I really appreciate your
help. Thank you.

What happens when you use this url instead?
http://127.0.0.1:8500/CFIDE/Administrator/index.cfm

If you did not choose to configure a web server by default Coldfusion will
install with the internal webserver that runs on port 8500.

If this does not help find out where the CFIDE diretory is located on the
machine and post it here.

Lisa,
You are great. I had installed Project server on this computer and I used Port
1440 for it. So, I tried http://127.0.0.1:1440/cfide/administrator/index.cfm,
and it worked. Thanks. But I still need your help. Now can you take me through
the post installation, like, do I have to disable RDS or not and other trhings.

If this is a production machine then we recommend RDS not be enabled.   Note
that if you do not enable RDS the Browse buttons in the CFMX Administrator will
not work and you won't be able to connect remotely to the CFMX server like if
you are using Dreamweaver for development locally and uploading the finished
files to the Win 03 server.

The other choice in the migration/configration wizard is installing the
samples.  Once again, if this is a production machine we recommend not to
install the samples since they could cause a security risk.

Other than the above the configuration/migration wizard installs the ODBC
services and there is not choice whether or not you want them installed.

Lisa,

Thanks for your help so far.  I did what you suggested, and it seems to work with the internal web server.

Now I need to get it to work with IIS.

You can try to configure the IIS web server through about 3 diffent methods:

1 - Use the GUI Web Server Configuration Tool in the Macromedia -->
Macromedia ColdFusion MX program group.
2 - There are BAT files located in {cf_root}\cfusionmx\bin\connectors
directory that run the utility from the command line.
3 - You can also configure the connector manually - check out this tech doc
for that
-http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/standalone_manual_con
figure.htm

Lisa,

I chose to go with method 3.  The manual way.  At least then, if things didn't
work, I would know how to back out of it.  Good thing, too... because as soon
as I finished, the IIS site I was trying to configure started asking for a
login and password.  When I took out the WildCard Application Maps (in the
configuration dialog), it stopped asking me for the login.

The documentation was not clear as to the information needed in the
.properties file.

1 =IIS,1,false,""
1 .srv=localhost,"default"

There is a line which states, "(actual locations should reflect your specific
installation directories)."  I am not sure where these locations should be
changed and to what.

I guess there are 2 things I need at this point....

1.  Why did the WildCard Application Mapping make my site require a login?
2.  Help me get my site to run Cold Fusion (cfm) files.

It you are getting the log on box then it's a permissions issue with the dlls
mentioned in the mappings jrun_iis6.dll  and jrun_iis6_wildcard.dll.   As a
test give these dll EVERYONE Full Control add the mappings back in - restart
both IIS and CFMX and then try to hit a CFM page.

If you can then server up CFM pages with a log on box then you can narrow down
the permissions based on your security needs.

Thanks Lisa,

That did it.  The server is up and running, and I can now start to try things out.  I just need to dial down on the permissions now.
