When attempting to install CF MX 7 on a Windows 2003 server, the
InstallAnywhere installer window does not display correctly. It is functional,
but you only see the text of the buttons, not the buttons themselves. For
example, the very first screen where you can choose the language from a
drop-down box, it only shows the text "English" and text "OK". No functional
drop-down box. You can click on the "Go" text and it will continue to the next
screen. You do not see the progress bar as you should while it loads the next
screen. When there are radio button selections to choose from, you cannot see
the radio button, only text.
CF MX 7 does install correctly on the Windows 2000 server. That's how I know
what the screens should look like and the options to choose from.
Having recorded the steps of the install on the W2K server, I can fumble my
way through the "text only" screens in InstallAnywhere on the Win2003 server
and it will say that installation has begun; however, it never moves past that
point (it has sat that way for days!).
I have tried to install this on 3 different Windows 2003 server machines, one
without SP1, one with SP1, one with SP1 with DEP turned off. All have the
same results.
Has anyone seen this problem before?

There are known issues with installing on Win2K3 ... sometimes it works,
sometimes it doesn't.
If it's not working for you simply do a silent install and you'll be set to go.

I ran into the same problem above and it seemed to install fine use the silent
method, but ran into the same problem while trying to apply the 7.01 update.
Do I just use the same installer.properties file for this installer also?
Thanks in advance,
Kenny

Yup, just follow the same procedure. You may want to check the release notes in case anything has changed however.

Thanks Xentrix for the reply. My installer.properties file didn't work for the
7.01 update. However, I did find out what the problem is. It's not only an
issue with Windows 2003 but also Windows 2000. I realized this after I went
back to Windows 2000, thinking that it's probably best to stick with an OS that
I know works well with CF 6.1. I did a fresh install, updated Window 2000 with
all high priority updates, than ran the installer. Got through it ok until I
was warned that my MDAC was not up to date. Cancelled out of the installer,
and installed MDAC 2.8 SP1 (issued some time in April 2006?) and voila I
started having the CF installer problems right after the reboot. I remember I
had also installed MDAC 2.8 SP1 on W2k3. So reverted back to MDAC 2.8 for the
time being and installs go fine until I get that little nasty message about the
"msvcp60.dll" file. That's another story but simple fix to that was to copy
from another server that for some reason had it.
Downside to MDAC 2.8 is there seems to be a security threat so it's a catch
22. Do I keep it at MDAC 2.8 so that I can apply all future updates for
ColdFusion, or do I just install MDAC 2.8 SP1 after I run the 7.01 updater and
hope that Adobe fixes this issue for future updates? I think the latter should
be the case, but a new installer altogether for the main CF MX 7.01 app should
also be made available to fix this problem. I prefer the GUI installer
interface as opposed to the silent install, since this way I know at least the
CF installer is doing what I think it's doing.
Hope this helps others,
Kenny

I'm having a similar problem. Fresh install of MX7 brings up the
InstallAnywhere screen. All I see is the "Choose"(directory) and Cancel
buttons. Even if I choose a directory I come back tot he same screen. It
doesn't display the path or provide any kind of "Continue" button.. I'm stuck
there. Silent install does the same thing. I can't get past this screen. Any
ideas?

Have you turned off all anti-virus software, firewall, and any TCP/IP
filtering? As mentioned in earlier posts, this might be a DEP issue. See this
MS article:

irhusker, you might have corrupt installer. Have you checked against MD5 checksum to see if it matches what we have on the website?
