Hey,
So I am pretty new to Cold Fusion and in the learning process, so I have one
quick question. For the past couple weeks I have been trying to create a data
source with ColdFusion so that I could create a User Registration page and User
Log In page with Dreamweaver. However, I have just now realized that this
entails Remote Database Access, and this is not allowed on the shared hosting
server that my site is on with godaddy.com. So my question is, is there any way
for me to create these two pages, and use the MySQL databases that godaddy.com
provides for me as a datasource if I cannot make a remote connection to them?
Thanks. -John Speckhard

I think that's already the answer. If you don't have Remote Database Access, it
means godaddy.com wants you to be able to access their database only from
one of their own servers. There is therefore no way to connect to their MySQL
from your own server. Either ask them to create a remote access account for
you, or buy a Coldfusion hosting account from them.

Well, thats the thing. I have a ColdFusion hosting account with them, but they
still say that creating a datasource using the ColdFusion administrator, so
that I can manipulate the databases on Dreamweaver (I.E- Define server
behaviors), is accessing the databases remotely and they wont allow this. Could
this be bypassed if I just learned how to script ColdFusion and didn't use the
help of Dreamweaver, or am I justed doomed? Thanks

You could of course try. Here is
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=6ef0253 in the
Coldfusion Administrator. You will still a username and password for the
database!
